This research report provides an overview of how other countries have sought to legally provide for the changing of an individual’s gender on official documentation, including the procedures for changing one’s gender and the legal impact on the individual’s identity and property after the gender change. Based on this overview, the report outlines key recommendations for consideration by lawmakers in Viet Nam as they debate and develop the Gender Affirmation Law.
